Great Page!!! |
Okay, this is what I want to say... Firstly, my great grand-father
is about the farthest back that I know off the top of my head. His name
was Harold Morris Braswell, Sr. Is he in any of your records??? If not,
I can refer you to my great uncle, who happens to research our Braswell
Family's line as a hobby. If you are interested, shoot me an e-mail and
I'll get you a way to get in touch with him. If you are just interested
in some general information on my Braswell family, I can tell you what
my father knows about it (he knows quite a bit). I guess that's it for
now since I a writing this from my school and I don't know any more about
it myself. Great Page of Braswell's!!! William N. Braswell, Jr. 15 yrs.

I saw that my brother had signed the list so I thought it would be
cool if I did too. My brother is Thomas H. Braswell. We both live in Orlando
and attend the University of Central Florida. I like what you're trying
to do here with the Braswell web page. I believe most of my family originated
in Georgia and they are connected with the Hawthorne family in some way. |

I was just curious about other Braswells. The only other Braswells
that I have heard of, other than my family, have been Afro American. I
am 21 yrs old and I believe most of my family came from Georgia. There
is also a relation with the Hawthornes. They had something to do with blazing
the Hawthorne trail somewhere in Georgia. |

My grandmother on my mothers side was Minnie N. Braswell Smith, she
married James C. Smith on March 6, 1904. They raised six children Parker,
Carl, Boon Mildred, Nell and Oneta. Minnie Braswell Smith was the dauther
of Jasper Meltos Braswell and Nancy Arneta Smith Braswell They came from
Alabama or Georgia to southwest Oklahoma sometime around 1880, 1890 timeframe.
They were farmers around the Vinson area. All were laid to rest at Cave
Creak Cemetary south of Vinson, Oklahoma. At this time, this is about all
I know about the Braswells branch. Happy hunting and farewell |

We hail from Henderson, NC, in the north central part of the state.
Grand father was born in south central Virginia near Lawrenceville. I assume
we are connected to the Isle of Wight Virginia folks who seem to be the
place of the early Braswells. The textile mills of Henderson and Roanoke
Rapids, NC provided the employment for many in my family. We are always
interested in learning more about the family but don't have much time to
devote to a search. We have 10 year old triplets, so we are establishing
the next generation of Braswells. Thank you for providing this place to
exchange information. |

I'm chasing the elusive immigrant. I have found James Brazell, b 1787
in NC, m. Rachel Yergan, parents of Merrill B., Arseneth, Mary Ann, Eliza
Jane, Cynthia, and Malachi. Surnames were spelled however the speller wanted
in those days, so I suspect that there is some connection in the various
family surnames going back to Ireland and O'Brasil. |

My wife is a descendant of Luther Braswell from Fairfield, SC. Being
new in research she needs all the help she might obtain on this family.
His wife's name was Harriett E. Smith (grin)and they had nine children.
Rumor has it that Luther was a surveyor and surveyed many cities and townships
in SC? All the olfer family members had deceased and leaving no records
this will become our quest. I told her that I felt her gggrandfather must
be in a government protection program. Thus far we have very little to
begin with. This is an excellent web site and I've truly enjoyed my visit

My great-grandfather was Green Henry Braswell of Monroe/Crawford/Bibb
Counties in GA. My grandmother, Ina Braswell, married Austin J. Ellis in
the late 1800’s. By conjecture based on census records, I’ve guessed Green
H. probably was the son of Timothy, and grandson of David. The were on
the same census pages at the right times, with the right ages. Even if
that’s a correct guess, I don’t know anything about them! There also was
a Black/Mulatto person named Green Braswell in the same general area at
the same time. That’s caused me some blind-alley chasing, too. |

My Braswell heritage is from Anderson Braswell born 1822 in the part
of Pendleton Dst, SC that later become Anderson County. His father was
one George Braswell and mother Nancy Massey. George and Nancy were supposed
to have had 16 children!! From some old handed down unpublished lineage
sheets on the family they were probably married around 1800. Anderson was
still in Anderson Co, SC in the 1850 census. He is also recorded in an
estate sale of one Jany Holley with James Chastain. He appears in Choctaw
Co, MS in 1860. I suspect some sort of relationship with the Chastains
as he resided near to a former neighbor in SC, Edmond Chastain in MS and
some children later married, Edmond was also the grandson-in-law of Janey
Holley. Does anyone else have data on this family, especially George and
Nancy and any further children, siblings of Anderson? Also there is a Susannah
Brazwell buried in old Choctaw County, born 1784 and died July 20, 1871,
I have no idea of any relationship to my ancestors and no one seems to
know anything about her! |

My Web Page is coming along, although I didn't have any kind of title
I could use instead of "The Braswell Family," so I am not using the top
frame. Still is is looking good and is getting very extensive. I just keep
thinking of more and more I want to add... it will not be only genealogy.
I have also been asked to add a "Beatty" family database page for the Beatty
Project 2000. I will let you know as soon as I get it up. It really looks
nothing like yours now, but having a guide to use was a great help to me,
since I did not know HTML code when I began. My right arm is very sore.
I have 20 different files linked to the first page. Later. |

I think I signed in to your guestbook before, but maybe not. I am descended
from Ann Braswell who married Matthew Strickland, Jr. She was the daughter
of Richard Braswell and Sarah (Sampson?) Braswell, and of course, he was
one of the sons of the Rev. Robert Braswell. I was wondering about the
information in the beginning of the book by William Braswell that everyone
has been writing to the list about. If you have seen the book, is it worth
me buying the book for $20 just for a few pages about the early Braswells?
Thanks for your reply. I've enjoyed being on the Braswell list although
my interest in the Braswells really stops with Ann Braswell. I am very
interested in seeing any picutres of Rev. Robt. Braswell's home in Isle
of Wight, Virginiaor the Old Brick Church where he preached and Bracewell
Hall. Sue Howard e-mail: choward@mailgw.sanders.com |

Hello, I'm trying to connect my Smith & DeKalb Co., TN BRASWELLs
back to their [probable Nash & Edgecombe Co.,] NC roots. I'll probably
be on an on/off maternity leave for the next 10 years and won't get to
do as much direct research on my line as I used to! However, below is a
very brief mini-ahnentafel of my line. I have better info. in my PAF genealogy
files. 1. Barron, Lucy (b. 1/21/63, m. 12/25/85 to Lawrence MARCUS. 1 son:
Calvin MARCUS-BARRON to date) 2. John BARRON (b. 8/25/38, m. 6/3/61 to
3. Sarah Kathryn BRASWELL, b. 11/6/41, McKinney, TX. -- 6. Albert Dalton
BRASWELL, b. Blue Ridge, Collin Co., TX, d. 1942 7. Gloria Belle STATON,
b. Fort Worth, TX -- 12. William Danial BRASWELL, b. 1889 Smith Co., TN
13. Dora Lena RODGERS -- 24. John BRASWELL, b.1830's Smith Co., TN 25.
Martha Francis BAIRD -- 48. Robert BRASWELL, b. 1797 NC, d.1849 Smith Co.,
TN 49. Amelia "Milly" STEPHENS -- 96. possibly Robin BRASWELL, son of William
of Nash Co., NC, who was in Alabama by 1830 along with Drury BRASWELL.
No. 48: Robert BRASWELL was closely related to Sampson BRASWELL of Dekalb
Co., TN. Also VERY interested in all pre-1800 BRASWELLs of VA and NC! I
am a terrible snail-mail writer, but excellent e-mail writer. Thanks, Lucy

I descend from Edmund Bracewell, 1530-1560, of London, England down
thru his son Robert who married Rebecca. Their son Richard, who was born
in Virginia, married Sara Sampson. The family moved to NC by 1735 where
a Sampson Bracewell married a Miss Moore. He received land for his service
during the American Revolution and moved his family to Georgia in what
became Laurens County. Their son Sampson married Elizabeth Scarborough,
and their son Seaborn Asbury Bracewell married Roxanna Wolfe. At least
two of their children, John Charles and Jesse, fought for the Confederacy
during the Civil War. Their descendants can still be found in Laurens County
today. |
