When you or anyone else sends mail to the email address: Braswell-L@Genealogy.org it gets distributed to all the people subscribed. It's a great way to share information. It was good to discover you here on the Braswell list. You generously shared your information with me way back in the 80s. Since then, we've made a lot of progress on our Williams and Braswell families. It turns out that Samuel Williams, son of William Williams and my direct ancestor) also married a Braswell making me twice blessed. Lucreasy Braswell, wife of William Williams, was the daughter of William Braswell III who died in Nash Co., NC ca. Dec. 1778. William Braswell III's parents were William & Margaret Braswell. William Braswell II's parents were William & Mary Braswell. William I died in 1720 in Bertie Co., North Carolina. We also have the parents of William Williams. They were John Williams and Mary Griffin of Edgecombe and Nash Cos., NC. Do you have a fax machine? If so, I'll fax some charts to you. -Nona Nona Williams PO Box 3793 Santa Cruz, CA 95063 PS I'm also publishing a quarterly Braswell family newsletter for all Braswell researchers. However, today, I saw a message from Barb Deverse and the name "Ansel B. Strickland" stood out. And since she was asking about Braswells, I thought there might be a connection somehow. My Braswell connection goes pretty far back to an Ann Braswell who was married to a Matthew Strickland, Jr. She was probably born about 1694-1696. Her father was Richard Braswell and her mother was Sarah Braswell. I'm assuming that she is from Isle of Wight, Virginia because I do know that one of her first children, Jacob Strickland I, was born there. One of Jacob I's sons was a Solomon Strickland who m Amy Pace, had a son, Hardy Strickland who was born in 1783 in South Carolina. Hardy married a cousin, Priscilla Strickland, had several children, one of whom was Ansel Strickland. And that is really all I know about Braswells. Solomon Strickland, Ansel's grandfather, did die in Madison County, Georgia, so they did move on down into Georgia, as I'm sure other Braswells did. Hope you can use this information as well as Barb Deverse, and if you know more about my Braswell - Ann Braswel, Richard and Sarah, please let me know. Thank you very much. That means 80% are not & tho I am, I think we need a separate list for SAMPSON. I just checked the following url & there seems to be no list for SAMPSON. http://www.oz.net/~cyndihow/surn-s.htm How about someone starting a SAMPSON List? One could do it free at rmgate.pop.indiana.edu I can email the file on the subject to anyone willing to consider starting a SAMPSON list. Ray, I do not know your James SAMPSON. Let's continue to make the Braswell Family prosper in the true meaning of "Family" by contributing any information that concerns the family. Nothing is too meaningless or unimportant! I have recently updated my guestbook and would like for each of you to sign it. I know some of you have already signed it in the past months but please sign it again. Fill it out as complete as you can. If you don't have a web page be sure to put N/A Where it says Webpage Title. Also, if you happen to view the guestbook before you actually sign it, when you do fill out the form and send it it will take you to a screen where it has an option to view it. Well, if you hit view it will not show your name until you hit the reload button on your browser. I hope this is not confusing. Once everyone has signed it, it will be a quick place for everyone to reference each other's line or querys. Many Blessings, Keith PS. My hope is to identify and connect as many branches as possible. If you'd like to participate in this project by sending your charts, I will notify you of any others who are researching the same line and will send you any additional information I might have about your family. I'd prefer printed charts (only charts with Braswells on them please). GEDCOMs are acceptable but I've had conversion problems in the past so I prefer printed information. (An exception is if you have a Braswell-Williams connections, I'd also appreciate your Williams charts.) I have two Braswell lines and both Braswell ancestors married into the Williams family. Their locations were Oregon Co., Missouri, DeKalb and Smith Counties, Tennessee and Nash and Edgecombe Counties, North Carolina. - Nona Williams ---------- Braswell Branches PO Box 3793 Santa Cruz, CA 95063 From ???@??? I'm not an expert but I'd like to become one. I'd like to connect as many Braswell lines to the immigrant as possible. -Nona > What is the cost of back issues? Back issues are $16.00 per volume. Each volume consists of four issues and each issue includes an index of all names and locations. -Nona > Number of pages in each? It varies from as few as 8 pages to as many as 19 pages per issue. Several years ago I had more time in my schedule and the newsletters were longer. For the past year, I've limited the issues to about 8 pages each. > What books have been published on Braswell? There are several that I've heard about and haven't been able to get copies of. I do have a copy of Following the Braswells in America 1600-1983 by Dr. R. B. Braswell who is now deceased and the book is out of print. This book has no index and very little source citings and it contains some errors. As a point of interest it states that President Lyndon B. Johnson had Braswell ancestry. One of my subscribers is a co-author of a book called The Braswell Family. It contains a chapter on early Braswells from 1530 to 1799 and subsequent chapters deal with the Braswells who migrated from Wayne Co. North Carolina to Anson Co., North Carolina. The cost of the small hard bound book is only $12.00 and is available from Wayne Braswell, 237 Ridge Rd., Hopkins, South Carolina 29061. I suppose everyone knows that John Bennett Boddie included a write-up of Braswells in his series of books on historical families of Virginia? If this is not common knowledge, please let me know. I'll find the proper citings for you. I would appreciate information about any other books that are available for purchase. -Nona > > Keith, the answers to the above might should be on the web pages? > Or has this been done? James, I definitely would like your Carver family sheets. I'm sorry I forgot to mention them. I need to check my records, but I'm fairly certain that a descendant from that line told me that Richard Braswell eventually married Anne Carver, although they'd already had several children before they married. I consider those Carver children to be Braswells and I found a record in which Richard gave property to a couple of them. He referred to them as Braswells AKA Carver if I remember correctly. I believe I have a write-up on this in a back issue of the newsletter. Unfortunately, I haven't found the time to create one master index to the back issues, so I have to hunt for references. -Nona > -- > James W.
